Volunteer
Through United Way of Pierce County's Volunteer Center, each affiliated volunteer project is designed to support ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households.
Projects range from skilled volunteers for United Way’s VITA (Volunteers in Tax Assistance) program to serving at a local food kitchen, from the Stuff the Bus school supply drive to serving at a local mental health nonprofit, or from volunteering at Day of Action to providing rides to those in need. Individuals can sign up, or we can provide a wide variety of business volunteer-matching partnerships.

Advocacy
Why Advocacy is Essential to United Way of Pierce County's Work
Our mission is to help individuals and families thrive, particularly those who are living paycheck to paycheck in the ALICE population — Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed. While direct support and community programs are critical, one of the most powerful tools we have to create lasting change is advocacy.
The Willie Stewart Community Service Scholarship program celebrates and recognizes Pierce County high school seniors who have given back to their community through volunteer service. Scholarships in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded to graduating seniors in a competitive process. In 2024, 15 local seniors received this scholarship.
