Pride Month

pride

United Way of Pierce County fights for every person in every community every day. We believe that every person is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect – equal treatment and access to justice, not just, because it is the right thing to do, but because it makes United Way a stronger organization.

Because of these values, we strive to be an anti-racist organization that puts equity, diversity and inclusion at the center of our daily work and performance and we choose to support and Celebrate Tacoma Pride month!

By all estimates, there were three to five thousand marchers at the inaugural Pride in New York City, and today marchers in New York City number in the millions. Since 1970, LGBTQ+ people have continued to gather together in June to march with Pride and demonstrate for equal rights.

June is nationally recognized as LGBTQ+ Pride Month. June was chosen to recognize the LGBTQ+ community as it commemorates the uprising at the Stonewall Inn that occurred in June 1969, and is considered the catalyst for the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.

Tacoma Pride Festival honors the LGBTQIA+ community by celebrating pride in who we are as valuable, creative members of a diverse population in the South Puget Sound region, we invite you to CELEBRATE with Us!
